WINDOWS VISTA FOR SENIORS

Review:

Windows Vista for Seniors’ is a very good introduction to Vista, not only for seniors but for anyone who has just bought a computer with Vista installed or has had their computer upgraded to Vista. For those who wish to do their own upgrade it discusses the various versions of Vista and how to check the machine’s suitability for running Vista but then leaves you up in the air with no description of how to go about actually doing the installation or upgrade. It may have been deliberate because an upgrade from Windows XP can be fraught with danger although a clean install is relatively straight forward.

Another omission is the new function of ‘speech to text’ and ‘machine control by speech’ facility. This would be a godsend to the elderly or handicapped who have trouble using the keyboard and it should speed up the input from those of us who type by the ‘hunt and peck’ method.

It is an easy book to read and understand with all the instructions written in plain English and plenty of screen shots to show exactly what you should see when following the instructions. It covers most functions that you would want to use in your everyday computing activities. It also has a very comprehensive index in the rear of the book. A must have book for anyone new to Microsoft’s new incarnation of Windows Vista.
