How to Choose the Right Breast Pump
It’s been long proven that breast milk is the best for your newborn baby.
Your body manufactures more milk if your baby consumes more too, however if problems arise such as your baby isn’t sucking well, your baby can still benefit from your breast milk with the big help and use of the breast pump.
There may be unavoidable times when you are away and cannot nurse your baby, such as the need to attend to an unexpected or otherwise important matter whether in the office for work, at uni, or other travels, a breast pump is quite possibly the ultimate solution.
A breast pump is a device used to express milk from the breast into a baby bottle or other container when you need to stock up or will be away from your baby during feeding times.
When choosing a breast pump it’s important that you know what type of pump is most suitable for you.
There are many styles and models available on the market and they come down to one of two kinds, the electric breast pumps and the manual breast pumps.
Manual breast pumps benefit many new mothers because you have the complete control of the pump’s speed and suction (or expression of milk), aside from the fact that they are available at very affordable prices. They are usually very lightweight and compact and therefore very convenient to bring along when you’re going out. perhaps the only disadvantage of manual breast pumps is that sometimes mothers become tired of manually expressing the milk with the pump and cannot get enough milk for feeding.
Electric breast pumps are the best and popular choice for newborn mothers who work full time, or are time-starved (let's face it, that's most of us! :). They have many good features such as; being fully automatic, some have double pumping capability (which decreases the amount of time to express milk), have an adjustable suction level that helps to avoid discomfort in the nipples, and with quick cycling times. Electric breast pumps usually come in an attractive carrying bag and include accessories like storage bags, bottles, clips, and nipple ointment. There are also breast pump models that are battery operated for the convenience of active mothers. They weigh in at around 8 pounds or less. However, most electric breast pumps are not handy; they are often heavy, noisy, and somewhat more expensive when compared to the manual breast pumps.
Before finally deciding which kind of pump to purchase, be sure to consider the important criteria of the products. See its effectiveness on how often the pump cycles and the pressure of suction. Then consider how comfortable it will be to use, look for those with an auto cycling feature. Also consider the type of pumping action as they are available for single and double action. Note that the single pumps provide less stimulation than double pumping and the pumping time required is twice as when a double pump is used. Another consideration is the pumping durability, you should have an idea of how long and how often you will use the pump because there are some that have smaller and less durable motors. If you’re concerned about the quietness of the pump, then it’s favourable that you get the larger pump because the motors of larger pumps are quieter.
All breat pumps will need to be cleaned and/ or steralised
between uses for hygiene purposes.
To find the cheapest breast pump that suits your purposes you should first consider what type of device you will require, then you should visit as many online shops as possible (you can usually save by shopping online), once you know what model of breast pump you require then you can cross reference the online shops for the best price breast pump that precisely suits the needs of you and your baby. Good Luck!
